The Penzance School of Art building, designed by Silvanus Trevail, was built in 1880 and has served the community as a place to access art and craft education up until 2025. Two more buildings The Art Museum and Science School (both later converted to the town Library) were added at a later date to complete the centre for education and celebration.
Our Mission
We are PZArts CIC and we are working to raise funds to buy, refurbish, refit and relaunch The Penzance School of Art, Museum/Library and Science School to deliver a multi faceted campus for Heritage Arts and Crafts education, practice and celebration spaces.
We are thrilled to share that, supported by the Architectural Heritage Fund, we are working on the Viability Study of the project and look forward to sharing the journey with you.
The Three Buildings
The Science School
This will house tenants aligned with CIC ethos. Future options will be designed around community needs.
The Former Library
This will be converted into a professionally managed artist studios offering a selection of affordable pods of varying sizes.
Art School Building
This will house the ‘Heritage Arts & Crafts School’, with distinct offerings: Art School Workshops, Library & Study Space, and an Arts Shop
Give your time and skills, specific roles available. You may want to do two hours of editing photos, or get stuck in with a bigger task, we are open to all support.
